Coverage: Public roads outside built-up areas across the Republic of Moldova

Do I Need a Vignette for Moldova in 2026?
Yes, if your vehicle is registered outside Moldova. Moldova's road vignette (vinietă) applies to foreign-registered cars, buses and trucks. Moldovan-registered vehicles are not required to purchase one. Certain exemptions apply (see below). Driving on Moldova's roads in a foreign-registered vehicle without a valid vignette results in fines.
Key Reality: Moldova's vignette is among the most affordable in Eastern Europe. A 7-day vignette for a foreign-registered car costs EUR 4, making it a negligible cost for transit travellers crossing from Romania to Ukraine or vice versa. A car and its attached trailer are covered by the same tariff category.
2026 Rates: Vignette rates are set in euro by the Fiscal Code (Title IX, Annex 2) and apply throughout 2026. The vignette must be paid immediately on entering Moldova, and a car must be covered for its entire stay.
Who Is Exempt from the Moldova Vignette in 2026?
The following are not subject to the vignette:
- Foreign-registered vehicles holding an international road transport authorization of the type "Exempt from tolls" (Scutit de plata taxelor)
- Diplomatic missions, consular offices and their staff (cars and attached trailers)
- Vehicles placed under the import customs regime by resident persons and companies
- Vehicles of foreign military forces under international treaties
- Vehicles of international emergency intervention teams
There is no exemption for EU-registered vehicles, electric or hybrid vehicles, or short visits.

Planning Your Journey in Moldova 2026
Cost Considerations:
- Transit by car between Romania and Ukraine: a 7-day vignette at EUR 4 covers the transit and is one of the lowest road-use costs in Europe
- Longer stays: the 30-day vignette at EUR 16 is recommended for visitors staying up to a month
- Stays up to 6 months: the 180-day vignette costs EUR 85. Longer stays require the Over 180 Days option at EUR 180 for each next period
Border Crossing Tips:
- Purchase the vignette at evinieta.gov.md before arrival to avoid queues at the border
- Select the start date to match the planned border crossing date. The vignette starts at 00:00 of the selected day
- Do not pay online between 23:45 and 00:01
- Check the plate number, vehicle category and validity on the payment confirmation, and keep it for road checks
